Contractor Checklist

Has your contractor fulfilled ongoing educational requirements? We have former (retired) industry professionals who have worked for top insurance company’s who know the process and can help navigate all claim related material and questions!

  1. Does your contractor have a Georgia Residential Contractor’s license which allows them to obtain all necessary building permits from your municipality?  Amazingly enough many “restoration” companies will tell you this is not required but any structural or mechanical work performed  on a dwelling will require a permit from your local building department.  Should work be performed that has not been permitted a municipality could require the removal of all work completed leaving you to deal with this contractor for damages.
  2. Does your contractor have well qualified personnel who have industry related experience?  Southern Homebuilders & Restoration Group has retired personnel and contractors with many years of experience some of which who have retired from a major insurance carrier with thousands of claims processed and administered.
  3. Does your contractor carry all necessary insurance(s) to adequately cover every aspect of the work being performed?
  4. Has your contractor won awards for the services that they perform?
  5. Does you contractor use Xactimate software which is the insurance industry’s and home building leading and recognized platform?  This software is capable of cost breakdown on both labor and material down to each unit and labor hour.
  6. Has your contractor fulfilled all state continuing education courses?
  7. Will your contractor provide you with multiple references?
  8. Will contractor give you a no cost 5 year extended warranty on all work performed?
  9. Does your contractor have a PSP (Premiere Service Provider) status with your insurance carrier?
